A WOMAN who comes from Westhoughton will be hiking across one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world to raise money for needy youngsters.

Janet Jones will be following the Inca Trail across the Andes on a 10-day trip to raise money for "The Give Us A Break" charity.

The charity was set up by the Youth Hostel organisation to provides activity holidays for children from deprived backgrounds.

The 37-year-old, who is a website adviser and now lives in Halifax, is relying on her mum, Rose Jones, to help her with much of the fundraising.

Rose, of Marlbrook Drive, Daisy Hill, is a well-known character in the community and has been fundraising for charity for years.

She will be organising a prize draw calendar and a plant sale to help out Janet, who sets off for Machu Picchu in Peru in September.

The former Sacred Heart School and St Joseph's High School pupil must raise at least £2,400 for the charity to be able to take part with the group of 50 fundraisers from all over the country.

Janet, who has three children -- eight-year-old Iona, Lewis aged six and three-year-old Murray, is no stranger to fundraising and gets involved in a different event each year. The Brighton to London bike ride was her last challenge.

She said: "I am looking forward to it, but it will be a challenge.

"My children are absolutely petrified about me going because they know I'll be going through a jungle area and are convinced I will fall off the edge of a mountain!

"I am supposed to be in training at the moment and going hiking up mountains but, because of the foot and mouth crisis, I'm having real problems in finding anywhere I can go."
