AN accident victim has donated a £3,000 state-of-the-art home physiotherapy kit to Withington Hospital.

Anthony Coote, aged 33 suffered a crush injury to his arm last year while working for Exide Batteries in Bolton.

He had plastic surgery at Withington Hospital in Manchester last March followed by six weeks in hospital and 12 months intensive physiotherapy using the latest Continuous Passive Movement (CPM) kit, bought for him by his employer, at home.

The CPM machine is attached to the hand and moves each finger passively to regain maximum mobility and range of movement.

Anthony, who lives in Farnworth, initially used it three times a week for several hours at a time.

The CPM kit is mobile and easy to use in a patient's home, preventing frequent journeys to hospital.

Mr Stewart Watson, a consultant plastic surgeon at Withington Hospital, with an international reputation, said: "We are very pleased that Anthony has made such a good recovery following his accident. The CPM equipment has played an important part in his rehabilitation. We are very grateful to Anthony for donating this kit which will help the recovery of other patients in a similar situation."
