A DAREDEVIL from Little Hulton was the first person to register for a 90ft abseil for The British Lung Foundation.

Plucky Lisa McCadden, aged 21, was quick to sign up for the exciting feat, which will take place inside the Manchester Velodrome.

Lisa, of Trafford Drive is a former pupil of Hulton High School and has always been a keen sportswoman, playing rugby each week for the Rochdale Ravens.

She said: " I am really excited and looking forward to it but my friends and family think I'm mad! They are pleased that I'm taking part though, as it is for such a good cause. I will be taking some of them with me on the day, so they can cheer me on."

More than 150 people are expected to take part and by raising £145 or more in sponsor money, the abseil is free. Lisa has raised just over £100 so far.

She said: "Hopefully I will be able to raise much more."

Over 50,000 people in the North West have a lung complaint, from children with asthma to adults with bronchitis, emphysema and lung cancer. The British Lung Foundation is the only charity in the UK funding research into all lung disease. All funds raised will be spent in the North-west.

If you would like to learn how to abseil while raising funds for the charity, phone: 0151 228 4723. The closing date is April 20, 2001. The event will take place on Sunday, April 29. Lisa McCadden
