FROM 1924 to 1928 I lived in Dene Bank, Bradshaw -- with views over the Bradshaw Cricket Ground and Affetside. I attended Bradshaw School.
From those days a few lines of 'verse' have lingered in my mind, and I would like to know if any of your readers can search their memories and complete the story.
It goes as follows:
He shouted, "Hey lads, can you fight?"
"No, we ain't fought yet."
"Well, pull yourselves together and we'll muster up a set. We'll lay our clogs about 'em and meck 'em gawp and stare. We'll tell 'em straight. They'll ha' 't feight if they come Turton Fair."
Turton, I seem to remember, was about half way between Bradshaw and Bolton.
Making this up is well beyond my powers. Does it ring a bell anywhere?
