I THINK that John Evans is missing the point. By definition news is 'new events'.
The illness of Princess Margaret was a new event and 'broke' just before the midday news, therefore it was the lead story.
By 1pm it was the second item, and by 10pm the third.
Of course foot and mouth, NHS, Kosovo etc are more important, but sadly they are not new, they have been with us some time and likely to remain so for a lot longer.
Obviously Mr Evans has no media experience.
