AN orthopaedic surgeon has appeared before magistrates in Manchester on indecency charges involving patients going back over 20 years.
Rodney Phillips, 62, of Old Hall Road, Whitefield, faced 12 counts of indecently assaulting three women and five children, two of them brother and sister, aged between eight and 12.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between 1978 and 1997 at Bury General Hospital or Phillips's private rooms in St John's Street in the city.
Phillips, who denied the charges, was sent for trial on unconditional bail and will appear before a judge at Manchester Crown Court on April 25 for plea and directions.
