This picture of the top class of Wingates St. John's School, taken in 1948, has been sent to me by Mrs Ruth Fairhurst (nee Beardsworth).
She names the pupils as: Back row, from left - Mrs Makinson, teacher, Kenneth Morris, Geoffrey Mills (later headmaster, Rivington and Blackrod High School), Fred Bullough, Robert Hollis, Winston Woodward, Raymond Taylor, Arthur Bashall, Raymond Atherton, Jack Unsworth, Mr Grimes (headmaster).
Middle row - Colin Heyes, Winston Gibbs, Brian Jackson, James Naylor, Gerald Westwell, Bill Thomasson, Roland Plumb, Edwin Hart, Fred Lomas, (Brian Beard is just off the picture).
