MAURITANIA is an extremely poor North African country, which is almost entirely covered by desert. Here the people are completely dependent on their donkeys to carry much-needed water, food and fuel. But, being poor, they cannot treat their animals, and when they become too sick to work, they are simply abandoned in the desert to die a slow and painful death.
SPANA (the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad) is setting up a mobile clinic which will tour this remote country and try to ease the dreadful suffering of its workworn donkeys.
