Leigh RMI 1 Kettering 0 by David Magilton

LEIGH RMI continued their astonishing rise up the Conference table courtesy of some wayward shooting.

Kettering are firmly rooted in the relegation zone but created a string of scoring chances yet failed to capitalise on any of them.

Leigh, who moved into fourth spot with the win, grabbed the winner through Tony Black in the 72nd minute when he blasted home his 18th goal of the season.

Black took the ball on the edge of the box and raced past three defenders before cracking the ball into the top corner of the net. It was one of only a handful of chances Leigh created all night and made amends for two earlier chances the striker had squandered.

Kettering had dominated for much of the game but although chances came their way they could only fire blanks.

Leigh's assistant manager Dave Miller was delighted saying: "They made it difficult for us but but we have character in the side and we went for the win and got the goal which was an absolute corker."
