A SPURNED lover who stalked his former partner, beat her up and then constantly pestered her at work, has been legally restrained from approaching her again.

John Eric Clukas has already served the equivalent of a 13-month jail sentence following his arrest after his campaign of harassment against his former partner Hazel Thompson.

He was also sentenced to a Community Rehabilitation Order, formerly known as a Probation Order, for three years.

Clukas has been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic deemed treatable as an out-patient as long as he continues to take his medication.

Yesterday Clukas, aged 36, of West Road, Prestwich, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence on a charge of harassment. Other charges were left to lie on the file.

Prosecutor Ahmed Nadim said on seven occasions Clukas turned up at his ex-partner's home and work place, sometimes drunk and high on drugs and other times rambling and demanding food and money.

One time he became enraged and punched her in the face and kicked her in the groin and pulled clumps of her hair out. She was treated by a doctor for injuries sustained during the attack.

On several other occasions he turned up high on drugs and drunk at the pharmacy where his ex-partner worked.

Following the last visit in September of last year Clukas was arrested by police and has been remanded in custody ever since.

Recorder Michael Byrne said he was imposing a restraining order under the Protection from Harassment Act and sentenced him also to a three year Community Rehabilitation Order, formerly known as a probation Order, so his behaviour could be monitored. Recorder Byrne warned him that if he breached either order he would be sent to jail.
