DAVID Chaytor, MP for Bury North, is calling for an end to the practice of displaying corporate advertisements on telephone boxes.
Mr Chaytor has joined a cross-party group of MPs who want local planning authorities to be given the power to control the ads.
He said: "Streets are increasingly cluttered with advertisements and the recent introduction of adverts on phone boxes makes the situation even worse."
He claimed many of them were garish and unsightly and gave an impression of neglect and untidiness on the street.
And he pointed out that they stop CCTV cameras working properly by blocking the view of the inside of the kiosks.
