Wanderers 4-4-2
MATT CLARKE 7 SOLID handling and a good command of his area; helpless on the goal. LEAM RICHARDSON 7 ANOTHER combative performance by the young full-back. GUDNI BERGSSON 7 HE'S assumed the role of the 'straight man' of the centre-back duo and plays it well. COLIN HENDRY 9 THE action man was into absolutely everything at both ends; scored one, could have had a hat-trick. SIMON CHARLTON 7 DEVELOPING a good understanding with Gardner on the left; solid and productive. NICKY SUMMERBEE 6 SERVED up a handful of first class deliveries, including the assist on the goal. PAUL WARHURST 7 AN unfortunate injury robbed Wanderers of their midfield anchor. ROBBIE ELLIOTT 7 WORKED as hard as ever in the engine room - unlucky when his first half shot hit Holdsworth; it was going in. RICARDO GARDNER 8 NEVER stopped looking for a way through; his pace and his tricks were always a threat. ANDY CAMPBELL 6 GUTSY and pacy, he went desperately close in the second half. DEAN HOLDSWORTH 6 NO joy for Deano, who was closely marked ... to the point of frustration. SUBS: Gareth Farrelly (6) for Warhurst 62 mins, Bo Hansen for Campbell 71 mins, Ian Marshall for Summerbee 77 mins. Not used: Kevin Nolan, Steve Banks. STOCKPORT COUNTY(3-4-3): Kelly; Roget, Flynn, Clare; Gibb, Fradin, Grayson, Nicholson; Wilbraham, Hurst, Kuqi. Subs: Carrigan for Hurst 89 mins. Not used: Clark, Woodthorpe, Wiss, Bergersen. PLAYED like a man inspired, into absolutely everything at both ends. Played centre-back but was the most dangerous attacker on the field, by a mile. Scored one and, with a little more luck, could have had a hat-trick ... at least! Magic Moment: THEY don't always come off but Ricardo Gardner's instinctive backheel, wrong-footing a defender and finding Simon Charlton on the break illustrated the understanding the pair are starting to strike up on the left. Moan of the Match: THEY base their game plan on the work ethic and got the point they deserved but some of County's challenges in the first half - three in particular by skipper Mike Flynn and one by Fradin - were bordering on the X-rated. ACTION SHOTS 30 secs: Holdsworth is just a hair's breadth away from getting his head to Charlton's cross.
GOAL!
11 mins: Kelly gets a hand to the ball but can't keep out Hendry's near-post header from Summerbee's corner.
28 mins: Gardner tries a snapshot and sees it deflected inches wide.
31 mins: Wanderers escape as Nicholson's low centre flashes across the face of Clarke's goal with Hurst unable to get the decisive touch.
36 mins: Elliott cuts inside two defenders and lashes in a left footer that looks like going in ... only for the ball to hit Holdsworth.
37 mins: Hendry gets on the end of Summerbee's free kick but can't guide his backpost header on target.
Half-time: 1-0.
47 mins: Hendry is bundled over by Roget (no penalty of course!) as he gets on the end of a terrific pass from Bergsson.
51 mins: Stockport appeal in vain for a penalty, claiming 'handball' when Nicholson's corner floats in.
53 mins: Hendry is just inches too high with a powerful header from Summerbee's corner.
57 mins: Elliott sends Campbell away and the loan striker cuts inside, curling a shot agonisingly wide.
GOAL!
67 mins: Kuqi gets up magnificently above Hendry to head Nicholson's cross out of Clarke's reach.
69 mins: Wanderers survive a scare as Richardson blocks Hurst's close-range header from Wilbraham's deep cross.
77 mins: Hendry powers in a volley from the narrowest of angles and Kelly beats the ball away.
81 mins: It's that man Hendry again, this time heading Marshall's cross on target - only to see the ball go straight into Kelly's arms.
87 mins: Holdsworth is on target with a header - and again Kelly is well positioned.
Full-time: 1-1.
