THE Wanderers had a weekend off from action due to international games but there was hope that Sasa Curcic was about to become the main man in their Premiership survival. The Serbian was to be given a free role to display the full range of his undoubted talents. That meant joint bosses Roy McFarland and Colin Todd were considering abandoning the 4-4-2 system that had earned them promotion and switching to a five man midfield. Meanwhile Simon Coleman was back in training after recovering from breaking his leg in a game at Derby. From the BEN, November 12, 1990

WANDERERS went into their home game with Reading unbeaten in seven games - six in the league earning them 14 points from a possible 18. But that looked to be in danger as Reading took a shock lead through Mick Gooding and then saw top scorer Tony Philliskirk limp off with a hamstring strain. Yet it all came right in the end as transfer listed Steve Thompson levelled after 57 minutes and then added another shortly afterwards from the penalty spot. And just to put the gloss on a handsome victory, David Reeves scored his third goal in three games to wrap up the points. From the Buff of November 15, 1975

THE weather of 25 years ago was similar to today's conditions as heavy rain turned football pitches into quagmires. That's exactty what happened to Burnden Park when Wanderers faced Carlisle United in a second division clash. Persistent rain kept the attendance to 14,556 and play quickly descended into a long ball game as the heavy conditions hampered Wanderers passing tactics. The game's most influential player, Roy Greaves, did his best to prompt his strikers but Garry Jones and John Byrom were unable to get the better of an uncompromising Carlisle defence.
