A £350,000 grant has boosted Manchester Airport's new Ground Transport Interchange.
The money, from the European Union's Trans-European Network schemes and studies programme, will be used towards developing a second platform for the airport rail station.
It is part of the new £60 million fully-integrated transport interchange which will eventually cover coach, train and Metrolink services.
Airport Chief Executive Geoff Muirhead said: "The further development of rail services to Manchester Airport has been identified by the Strategic Rail Authority as a crucial element of the overall investment required to meet the predicted growth in demand for passenger and freight services in the region."
The first phase of the Interchange is due to be completed by April, 2003.
It will have its own check-in desks, a new rail platform and longer platforms throughout to take trains up to 10 carriages long.
There will also be a new coach station, improved facilities for bus travellers, enabling works for Metrolink (due to open in 2005/2006) and a new office development.
