"MEMBERS of crackpot minority pressure groups such as Transport 2000, who erroneously believe new roads simply add to congestion, should be served with a gagging order".

That was my summation after using the recently completed M60 eastern section. This piece of motoring manna-from-heaven has slashed the rush hour travelling time of a journey from Bolton to Denton by at least half.

OK, so the future of road travel may well be smaller fuel efficient vehicles, with hydrogen fuel cell technology. But surely in the 21st century everyone, provided they fit the age criteria, should have access to their own personal transport module.

The erstwhile Tory administration may well have plunged UK plc £230 billion in the red, but at least they realised that a good road infrastructure is essential for both the private individual and business alike.

Now -- anyone know when work on the much-needed A225 Wigan link road will commence?
