I AM seriously beginning to wonder which planet our Councillors come from. It must be one where money is of no consequence
To spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on widening Moss Bank Way, destroying some beautiful trees in the process, only to then make it into a one-lane highway with a cycle lane was truly ludicrous.
Was it necessary to block-pave the vehicle lay-bys on St Helens Road and Deane Road, so that the motorist will recognise these areas as parking bays?
Who authorised the expense of laying all those red lines an Scout Road, to warn of bends? I wouldn't consider Scout Road as a major busy highway to need such treatment.
The latest white line mania is now displayed on Chorley New Road. Did someone from the Highways Department mistakenly order 50,000 litres of paint instead of 500?
Chorley New Road is badly in need of re-surfacing, but NO, the white paint has come out again. New markings down the middle and a cycle lane. Just in case the stupid motorist doesn't recognise a cycle lane, they have erected posts every 100 yards with pictures of cycles on them, and, just to make doubly certain, they have painted pictures of cycles on the road as well.
We now read in the paper that a wooden bridge in Harwood has to be demolished because there is no money to repair it. This lost short cut to schools and shops will now entail a car journey for a lot of people. So much for trying to reduce car use and encourage children to walk to school.
I could go on, but lack of space prohibits further examples of a seemingly stupid waste of funds.
