They are one of seven clubs chasing five places in the prestigious county competition which they won three years ago in a dramatic final at Old Trafford.

As it stands, only Greenmount are assured of a place in next year's contest following their Hamer Cup win last week, which leaves four other places up for grabs.

Kearsley, who lead the table by 48 points, are almost certain to secure one of those spots, which leaves Westhoughton, Egerton, Tonge, Little Lever and Bradshaw to battle it out for the remaining three places.

Westhoughton are currently in third place, 21 points behind Egerton, but the three other clubs are all within striking distance.

Yet, with seven matches to go, Westhoughton could help themselves as they still have to play games against Tonge and Little Lever and, with 20 points at stake for a win, success in those two matches would go a long way to deciding Westhoughton's destiny next season.

It's a similar story for Atherton in the Bolton Association where the competition looks even more tight.

They are one of eight clubs separated by only a handful of points and they need to improve on their current sixth place to stand a chance of qualification in a competition which has never been won by a club from the Association.
