A RE-RUN of a Hollywood blockbuster has been a "monster" success, bringing in a record-breaking number of visitors to Bolton Museum.

Bolton Museum's Jurassic Exhibition has attracted hundreds of visitors since the Steven Spielberg dinosaur classic Jurassic Park was repeated on television two weeks ago.

And record numbers of families are expected to look around the exhibition before the end of the summer holidays.

The show has attracted more than 11,000 visitors since it opened on June 17 and is expected to achieve a record level of 40,000 by the time it closes on September 16.

More than 1,200 people alone trooped into the museum during the week after schools finished for the summer on July 21 and the second series of the BBC's Walking with Dinosaurs, which started at the weekend, is also likely to pull in even more crowds.

Chief Museums Officer Steve Garland said: "We expected Jurassic to be a hit with families and are really pleased with the enthusiasm local people are showing for it.

"If we can achieve 40,000 visitors for the exhibition in total we will regard it as a huge success for the museum, and as something we can hope to build on in the future.''
