THE NORTH West Aerospace Alliance has signed Memoranda of Understanding with like-minded organisations representing Clear Lake, Texas and the state of Kansas.

The transatlantic links between the North-west and two of the world's leading centres for space and aircraft technology were forged at the Farnborough International Air Show.

The signing ceremonies took place on the NWAA stand where more than 50 members sought to woo the international aviation market.

The Clear Lake Area Economic Development Foundation serves the region of Texas where the Johnson Space Centre is located.

Kansas is home to leading companies including Boeing, Cessna, Raytheon and Bombardier Learjet. They hold a combined share of 70 per cent of the US market.

The NWAA now has formal links with more than 20 regional and national aerospace industry organisations worldwide.

Chief Executive John Whalley said: "Aerospace is now a global business and the centres of excellence around the world have to co-operate just as much as they need to compete.

"We are particularly pleased to welcome two of the USA's leading aerospace organisations to Farnborough and we believe there is great potential for future co-operation, enabling us to work together for our members and to learn from each other."
