IT seems as though it is going to take more than Sarah Payne's horrible murder to teach some parents a lesson.

On Thursday, July 20, my friend was taking her granddaughter to school and she saw a little girl aged no more than six years old on her own, going to school through a deserted park. On Friday morning the same little girl was once again alone. My friend asked her which school she was going to, she said Brandwood Street.

The purpose of my letter, is to bring headteachers' attention how important it is to stress to parents that children must be accompanied to school at all times, and accompanied home, to put it bluntly these parents are in effect playing Russian Roulette with these childrens lives. It amazes me how many parents take chances with these small children.

I too was walking past another park on Friday, July 21, and there were two small children alone on the swings. Please, please, please, parents and teachers remember, little ones like Jamie Bulger and Sarah Payne. These paedophiles are just depending on parents who take these chances, even if they can't take the children to school themselves there must be one responsible adult in the family who can do it, or even a friend.
