Jim White and Jimmy Chambers prepare to transport furniture to Todmorden to help with the disaster fund

A CARING Bolton businessman has donated two van loads of furniture to help flood victims . . . in YORKSHIRE.

Jim White, 47, was moved by the plight of the residents of Todmorden, just 20 miles away, who suffered terrible hardship in recent devastating floods in the area.

He is used to dealing with those who have lost everything as his company assesses damage in fires and floods for insurance purposes.

But the levels of misery in Todmorden shocked the father-of-two. He said: "It has been complete devastation. There are those with little or no insurance cover who have lost nearly everything they possessed.

"It is heart-breaking. On a human level I knew I wanted to do something to help."

He has come into day-to-day contact with the suffering of the people of the Pennine town.

His company, One Call based on Spa-Road, has been involved in the clear up following the torrential rain which damaged 700 homes.

After seeing an appeal by the mayor of Todmorden, Joseph Rez, in the BEN, he decided he had to do more.

He has agreed to donate the entire stock of furniture which his company keeps to be loaned out to victims of floods and fire before insurance money is paid. It will be sold in a shop in Todmorden, which lies on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border. The money raised will go towards the disaster fund.

Mr White added: "Our furniture is second hand but it is good quality. We hope it will raise a large amount of cash for the fund. I have been helping these people on a professional basis. But you cannot just stand back and be objective. This is the least we could do to try to get these warm-hearted folk back to some degree of normality."
