Bradshawgate, 1936. Tram H to Doffcocker is just passing Yates Wine Lodge. The trams had not long to run, and many services including this one were replaced by motor buses in 1939.

Next to Yates was Ship Gates, which took its name from the Ship Inn which fronted onto Bradshawgate.

In 1890 Yates Ltd bought the Bull's Head adjoining the Ship Inn and registered it as their fifth Wine Lodge in the country. The terracotta building of 1906 is still there today.

Shipgates was closed as a thoroughfare after a court case of 1975, and Fold Street to the left was closed for the Arndale precinct, making it now the shortest street in Bolton.

Until 1969 it linked Bradshawgate to Acresfield
