A MANCHESTER orthopaedic surgeon has been ordered by a court to cease practising while on bail accused of sexually abusing female patients -- one a girl of four.
Rodney Phillips, aged 62, of Old Hall Road, Whitefield, faced a total of 11 fresh charges when he appeared before the city's magistrates and was remanded until August 16.
Mr Phillips, who is already awaiting trial at the Crown Court on similar charges, is alleged to have committed the latest offences at his rooms in St John's Street and Bury General Hospital over a 15-year period.
He is accused of indecently assaulting five women and three girls aged four, 18 and 13. The allegations date between 1974 and 1999.
Stipendiary Magistrate Alan Berg also ordered Mr Phillips to deposit a £7,500 security with the court, surrender his passport and not to apply for any travel documents.
Mr Phillips offered no plea to any of the charges.
