IN the fashion industry, it could indeed be termed a rags to riches tale.

Bridalwear specialist Jacqui Pardon (pictured) built-up her business, Elegant Brides, from nothing.

But six years after she started her business from home, Mrs Pardon has just opened her first shop on All Saints Street, Bolton.

Her interest in textiles, embroidery and bead work followed a college course in Manchester, 14 years ago.

After pursuing the activity as a hobby for nine years, she made the decision to make a go of it in business and, after a spell at home, snapped up a small workshop unit at Bolton Enterprise Centre.

She said: "The Enterprise Centre was a good start because it gave me the essential space I needed.

"But I wanted to branch out and get a dedicated shop. From here I want to be able to expand further but at the same time am keen to retain a certain amount of exclusivity."

The new shop at All Saints House is double fronted with a reception, shop floor and work space.

Her decision to expand followed a doubling of turnover in the past year from £11,000 to £22,000.

She said she had advance orders until 2001 and has drafted in two staff to help her complete them.

The 43-year-old added: "One thing I am keen to pursue is the Internet. I've registered the shop name and have already tied up deals with bridal sites."

The deals allow her to offer more than just the dresses. She uses her contacts to offer clients, among other things, photographers and wedding invitations.

Debbie McGroarty, supervisor of the units at the Enterprise Centre, said: "We're really pleased to have seen such a success story.

"The units have helped many businesses in the area. They are currently enjoying 98pc occupancy."
