MORE than 220 students and their employers from around the North-west have marked another successful year of growth for the Year in Industry scheme, supported by the Engineering Employers' Federation.
A celebration dinner was held at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
The scheme offers outstanding post 'A' level students the opportunity to work in businesses across the North-west in a gap year between school and university.
Mr Chris Harris, North West Regional Director of the Year in Industry, said: "The scheme provides students with the opportunity to experience the workplace -- and businesses benefit from some of the brightest young minds in the region."
Mr Andrew Semple of EEF in the North West said: "Many students go on to be awarded sponsorship and even full-time positions with their employers.
"Staff skills in all businesses and particularly manufacturing will be increasingly important in the future."
Further information on the Year in Industry scheme is available from Mr Harris on 0161-278-2497.
