ACCORDING to an article in the BEN (Teenage burglar loses his appeal against 'living nightmare', July 14th), a teenage youth had, while being held in youth custody, "been bullied by other youths and had property taken from him" and had described his time there as a "living nightmare".
If what he describes is true, then all I can say is good. Perhaps his treatment there will make him realise how his victims felt, one of which was a 79-year-old woman, from whom he stole a purse.
If the treatment he receives in youth custody discourages him from going back to crime, the sentence will have been effective.
