nI AM glad that the Ridgway Arms junction is receiving attention. However, I am still horrified that the same remarks are trotted out about the bollard at the A6 junction near the Jarvis Georgian House hotel. On the morning of Saturday, July 8, there was yet another three car pile up, with two police cars in attendance.

This junction has been the subject of numerous requests for something to be done. I do not accept the planners' decision at Bolton that this bollard must remain at the same height.

The accidents often occur because drivers moving out of the junction on to the A6 cannot see the indicator lights of approaching traffic and cannot determine whether a car or lorry is moving into Blackrod or travelling straight on.

I know that it is a driver fault, but the bollard simply creates accidents. You surely do not need a large bollard to indicate the approach road into Blackrod, and you certainly do not need one for leaving Manchester Road. Of course, the most sensible solution would be traffic lights.

A certain amount of innovative thinking is required by our planners!
