IT was interesting to read in the BEN on June 9, that David Young, former MP for Farnworth, complained that Bolton Metro councillors failed to provide public toilets for Bolton and Farnworth 10 years ago.

He complained that the present MP, Dr Brian Iddon, who was Chairman of Housing for 10 years and a senior councillor, did nothing to support the need for disabled toilets.

I could hardly believe what I was reading in David Young's letter, after all, on August 11, 1994, he wrote in 'Week in Westminster' in the BEN, "we in Bolton have seen our local services savaged by the (Conservative) Government's financial cuts."

He now blames his own Labour group, who he says were responsible for failure to provide public toilets in the town.

It was a good excuse at the time to blame the Conservative Government for everything, while Bolton councillors mismanaged and wasted public money. Meanwhile, Mr Young was MP for Farnworth for over 20 years. However, I wonder if he really had any knowledge whatsoever of Farnworth's needs.

Now, probably through pique, he is complaining about the Labour councillors and MP for lack of action. This has gone on for over 60 years regardless of who was in power at Westminster.
