MANCHESTER League champions Stand Athletic had a rude introduction to the Goldline Trophy in association with the Bolton Evening News when they slumped to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of West Lancs League side Turton.
The villager's star striker Phil Hutchinson gave the Manchester visitors a lesson in the art of finishing, lashing in two top class goals in the second period, to resurrect Turton's chances in the competition following their opening defeat by Rivington.
Also opening their account over the weekend was Leigh Athletic who went away to Blackrod and scooped maximum points courtesy of a solitary Gordon Walker penalty in the second period. Meanwhile points were shared between Atherton Town and Eagley with a 1-1 draw while Daisy Hill and Radcliffe Amateurs also finished honours even this time with a 2-2 scoreline.
Action in the Goldline Trophy can be seen across the week with last season's finalists Bolton County clashing with Tempest United on Tuesday, Charnock Richard taking on Hindsford on Wednesday and Blackrod looking to avenge their shock defeat when they meet the veterans from De La Salle on Thursday. All have 6.30pm kick offs.
