A TEENAGE girl was shot between the eyes with an air-rifle pellet during a weekend camping trip.
The 14-year-old was taken to Bury General Hospital on Saturday night and transferred to Fairfield where surgeons removed the lead pellet from her forehead.
Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection with the shooting and he has been released on bail.
Detective Sergeant Duncan Heywood, of Bury CID, said: "A 47-year-old man had taken six children camping in the Kirklees Valley and had taken along two air-rifles to show them how to use them correctly.
"Unfortunately, one of the children sneaked off with a rifle and was taking pot shots at trees when a pellet hit the girl who was playing nearby."
The youngster suffered severe swelling and bruising to her eyes.
The police are currently treating the matter as an accident.
