Dave's top

carp catch A SINGLE carp of 7lbs-3ozs was enough to secure first place for Bolton Rivers member Dave Johnson in last Saturday's member and guest match on Doe Hey's top water. The common was tempted by Daves bread offering and was safely landed despite a few charges across the water. Second was unattached M. Brocklebank who weighed 7lbs-1oz after catching skimmers throughout match whilst most anglers suffered. Third was Worsley Angling Centre's Bob Fearnhead who had small silver fish for 6lbs-12ozs, whilst John Wharmby was fourth with 6lbs-5ozs. Another match is scheduled for next Wednesdat night (7th June). A few tickets are still available for the annual charity match on Sunday July 16th with both waters being used, the cost is £10 all in. To book on either match ring Bob Fearnhead on 0161 799 4242. Dixon Green open ANOTHER good turnout of 19, saw good competition in last Wednesday evening's open match on Dixon Green. John Turton was on peg five and only had two fish, a small skimmer and a carp of around twelve pounds with the latter being responsible for his win. John, who fishes for Ultima Fishing Stations, weighed 12lbs-1ozs and caught the huge commoner on the quivertip with red maggot. Second was Simon Stott of Team BAS 2000, who fished the tip and the pole to catch skimmers and bream for 7lbs-1ozs from peg 11. Third was John Eastwood (unattached) who fished the tip to take bream and skimmers from peg 7 for 5lbs-10ozs. Alan Battersby of Doe Hey was fourth with 5lbs-3ozs. The club are continuing their sterling work in transforming the Farnworth water into an anglers paradise and are, at the moment busy constructing disabled angler pegs. The materials for such have been kindly donated by Avis Steel of Little Hulton. A Shore surprise TO draw number two peg on Shore Top at this time of year is normally considered to be a bad omen but as is common with angling, lifes full of surprises! At least it was for Trevor Bevin, who was none too happy with his lot having drawn the peg in the bank holiday match. However a procession of skimmers were ready and eager to take his quiver tip offering of red maggot which gave the Farnworth angler the top spot with 19lbs-9ozs. Les Salmon tried the pole and had a good session after catching smaller silver fish on maggot for 10lbs-12ozs. Third was Hughie Campbell with 8lbs-15ozs of skimmers on the tip. Others:- 4th. Les Collier 6lbs-10ozs., 5th. Gordon Corfield 3lbs-3ozs., 6th. Alan Davies 2lbs-10ozs. Maceys Open BRADSHAW Hall Fisheries, Maceys Wednesday Open. Lake Number Four 1st.
