RESIDENTS in Little Hulton, Worsley, Walkden and Boothstown can apply for grants to implement any ideas they have to improve life in their area.

The Salford West Primary Care Group, which covers those neighbourhoods, is piloting a funding initiative to promote the health and well being of people.

It has allocated £10,000 to set up the scheme and applications can be made for between £50 and £1,000.

Part of the fund will be set aside to support this year's local health priority, which is children and young people.

In addition, the fund will be set aside for grants made to people who do not have a bank account in a registered group's name.

Examples of activities which may be funded could include the start up costs for community self help or support groups, families having a summer fun event in the park, or anything else which would bring people together to improve health and well being or improve community life in some other way.

Further information and an application form are available from the PCG's Community Participation Officer, Julia Garlick on 0161 787 0319.

The board of each PCG meets monthly and are open for the public to attend as observers.

Salford West's next meetings are on June 6 and July 4, 12.30pm, at Sides Medical Centre, Moorside Road, Swinton.
