WOULD-BE Principals who have their eyes on the top job at Bolton College could be asked to take a tough new leadership test.
The Government recently announced a range of measures designed to drive up the standards of teaching and management in further education.
And one of the proposals is to develop a compulsory professional qualification for new principals to ensure they have the right leadership skills.
As reported in the BEN, the current principal at Manchester Road, Terry Hogan, has applied for early retirement and acting principal Dr David Collins is due to leave at the end of this year.
The government also intend to make sure FE lecturers have a minimum teaching qualification and have agreed to pay trainees on the course £150 a week as part of a year long trial.
