THE Lions U8s were in outstanding form against this much improved Warrington outfit, who matched the Lions two tries to two before the Westhoughton defence started to work overtime to keep the Bulldogs tryless for the rest of the game.

Man of the Match Andrew Newton barged his way through the Burtonwood defence three times to score his second hat trick of tries this season, whilst top tackler James Haydock added two more from two superb runs from the acting half back position. David Parkinson scored a further two Lions tries, one of which as a result of a magnificent length of the field run.

Wingers and centres Daniel Parkinson, Matthew Veal, Mark Scholes and Nathan Blair each worked hard in defence and Forwards Ceiran Podmore and Alex Davidson worked tirelessly to drive the ball upfield. Most improved player: Matthew Crow. Golden moment: Mark Scholes.

IN this very tight local derby a rejuvenated Lions U9s ran the Panthers extremely close, to such an extent that had all of the Lions' seven tries been converted then they would have won the game.

New coach Paul Brierley led the team to their best performance for many weeks as the Lions rediscovered the way to the oppositions tryline. Man of the match Matthew Bracken scored an outstanding five tries with Naomi Hossain adding another two.

New player Sean Coop was in particularly fine form in defence, making many excellent tackles and deservedly winning the top tackler trophy. Conversions were kicked by golden moment winner Kieran Farrell, Ryan Brierley and Most Improved Player Dale Fleming.

YET again the Lions U10s put up a superb defensive display against the Leigh visitors, in a match which was extremely competitive and closely fought for the whole 40 minutes. John McCoy and Jonathan Evans worked hard in attack and defence whilst Man of the Match Daniel Brett made a series a outstanding tackles and drives. top tackler Ross Woodcock gave text book demonstrations of tackling technique and new player Jonathan Fairhurst won 'Most Improved Player' for several good drives into the heart of the Leigh defence.
