A NURSERY plagued by break-ins and vandalism has been donated a burglar alarm system by a local security firm.

St Aidan's Nursery has been the target of repeated attacks by vandals and thieves.

But now the Crompton Way church hall premises are being fitted with a security system linked directly to the police station in a bid to deter the vandals.

Nursery boss Bernadette Ward said: "We are absolutely delighted with this. The firm got in touch after reading about what had happened to us. "This gives us the peace of mind to carry on without worrying how much damage we'll have to clear up each time they decided to break-in." ADT Fire and Security are installing the intruder alarm system at the nursery in the hope of bringing to an end the misery caused by regular wrecking sprees.

As reported in the BEN, the nursery near Hall i'th' Wood estate suffered five break-ins in just one month.

Smashed

The callous vandals have smashed toys, kicked holes in doors and even urinated on the children's toys and games.

Bikes have been stolen and coats that were accidentally left behind by children have been stolen from the cloakroom. Various donations of toys, bikes and games have been made by BEN readers since the problems were highlighted.

Mrs Ward added: "People have been so kind and generous. We really never expected anything like this. It is marvellous how people have reacted. We were determined the vandals would not stop us running a nursery for these children and everyone's generosity has helped us so much."

ADT Fire and Security is currently setting up a Bolton branch at Bolton Enterprise Park, Washington Street, Deane.

The nursery will pay for the on going maintenance of the security system after it is installed.
