BOLTON North MP David Crausby has been given a mission by the American Ambassador in London.
And the project could help him win a free trip to the States or a personal computer for one of his constituents. The US Embassy and the Department for Education and Employment have launched a national essay contest for all students aged between 14 and 16. The topic is "The Alliance between the US and Britain in World War Two."
Youngsters are encouraged to interview their grandparents and others who have personal war time experiences.
Among the judges will be Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Sir David Frost.
Mr Crausby said: "The people of Bolton played a proud part in liberating Britain and it would be fitting if a young person from the town was one of the winners. I have informed the Ambassador that I will gladly assist him and I have written to all headteachers asking them to encourage their pupils to take part."
