CHORLEY Tennis Club's under 16 team entertained Longton Juniors and had a convincing victory.

Simon Brewer and Melanie Western won all four sets with scores of 6-2 in each, while Helen Entwistle and Daniel Western won three sets 6-4, 6-1, 6-0, giving Chorley Juniors victory by 7 sets to 1.

The situation was reversed when the juniors played away to a very strong Goosnargh side and lost by the same margin, only Helen Entwistle and Anita Warhurst winning a set.

In the senior league, Chorley 'A', playing in division one at home to Ribchester 'A', had another victory, with Chorley's ladies playing a significant role.

Anne Warhurst and Ruth Harrison won 6-2, 6-2, and Stephanie Drinkall and Jenny Burridge won a set 7-5.

Alan Gibson and Mike Cryer won a set 6-2 to make the score 4-4 before the mixed sets were played. The Windsor Park side needed three wins out of four to gain a victory and this was achieved by Alan Gibson partnering Anne Warhurst, winning 6-2, Ian McClelland and Stephanie Drinkall winning 6-2 and Mike Cryer partnering Jenny Burridge, winning 6-3, giving a final score of 7-5 to Chorley.

Chorley's D team, at home to Feniscowles, had a resounding victory. Wins by team captain Michael Bennett and Bob Gould 7-5, 6-4, Glynn Baker and Adrian Thornton 6-4, 7-6, Margaret Tootell and Andrea Nixon 6-1, 7-5 and one win by Hayley Wright and Nicky Sanderson 6-0, put the Windsor Park side in a strong position at the start of the mixed sets.

These were won with scores of 7-6, 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0 to give the final match result of 11-1 for the home side.

The tennis club's new clubhouse is now almost ready and work on the new courts is progressing.
