The Worsley MP said: "I am very disappointed and very angry. The referee was a disgrace.

"Sam Allardyce was spot on. I've never seen refereeing like it.

"There are too many referees ruining football.

"There was so much riding on last night. There were three penalties and two sending offs from a referee who sent two Wanderers' players off earlier in the season.

"He should never have been allowed to take charge of this match."

Bolton South-east MP Dr Brian Iddon said: "I am extremely disappointed. When I left the Commons it was 3-3 and when I got home we'd lost 5-3."

Bolton North-east MP David Crausby said: "I am very disappointed but it was a good end to the season.

"At one point no one expected us to get into the play-offs, but we did, and we put up a good fight."
