CHORLEY enjoyed an excellent weekend with a seaside cup double.

Saturday's Nuffield Hospital Cup tie saw unbeaten Blackpool come to Windsor Park and in glorious sunshine the two teams produced an extremely entertaining match.

Electing to bat first, Blackpool recovered from 76/5 to finish on 201/7 from their 45 overs.

This was, to put it mildly, a competitive total and at tea, Blackpool must have been confident, particularly when Bannister went cheaply at the start of Chorley's innings.

A 50 stand between Fazackerley and Horridge steadied things with man of the match Horridge strangely being the only batsman to post a half century in such a run feast. The advantage though was still tilted Blackpool's way until Senior intervened, taking 21 off Bracewell's solitary over - a serious misjudgement of his bowling options that proved to be by Captain Singh.

And he suffered further when, in the final over and Chorley needing four to win, Marquet hammered one of the biggest sixes ever seen on the ground to clinch a thrilling victory.

Sunday's win at Southport in the National Knockout was much more prosaic.

Chorley's young phenomenon Steven Cook took 4/28, with John Greaves 3/23 and David Catterall 2/9 chipping in to dismiss the home side for a paltry 121.

On a good wicket Bannister and Fazackerley put on 91 and after Fazackerley was caught in the deep, Bannister's unbeaten 58 saw Chorley ease home by 9 wickets.

Chorley travel to Kendal this Saturday.
