THE moves afoot to sell off air control to private companies, even if in part, causes a certain amount of apprehension. We all know that when private operators take over cutting costs, reduction of staff levels and an all-out effort to make money will take preference. Air traffic over the years has increased to an enormous degree, even now there are pilot errors, computer problems, and instrument failure, but overall the system is holding up. The Government should keep control and update systems, ploughing in the necessary funds. I feel that if it eventually gets into the hands of private operators, we will have to change the thinking of the old highway code to 'Look right, look left, and look up'.
