A WOMAN got into a car in Manchester thinking it was a private hire taxi and was driven to Blackrod and robbed.

The driver threatened the terrified woman before stealing her handbag and pushing her out of the car.

The woman, aged 22, got into the car at 10.15pm on Saturday.

She was driven to the Scot Lane Industrial Estate, Blackrod, and the driver became aggressive and threatened her.

He grabbed her handbag, containing £90, pushed her out of the maroon Ford Escort and drove off.

Police have released a description of the driver.

He is white, aged about 25, 6ft tall, muscular, skinhead, clean shaven with tattoos on his left upper arm and right forearm, tanned complexion, hairy legs and spoke with a Midlands accent.

He was wearing a luminous, sleeveless yellow Adidas vest and shiny bottle green shorts.

Only 18 months ago, female nighclubbers in the city centre were warned to be on their guard after a spate of attacks by bogus private hire drivers. One woman was raped.

A reward under Greater Manchester Police's Crimestoppers Scheme is now on offer for information leading to the arrest of the man responsible for the latest robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers on the free phone number 0800 555 111.
