The gifted Italian insists that claims he is demanding £40,000-a-week are "lies" and all he wants to do is sign a new deal and win the FA Cup for Villa.

"I am tired of all these lies about me," Carbone says.

"I am tired of all this talk. People say I wanted £40,000 a week, which is a lie. "I am not being greedy. If people knew the true figures I don't think they would say I am being greedy."

"All I want to do is win the FA Cup with Aston Villa and sign a new contract which will keep me here for three more years.

"All this is upsetting but I will not let it affect me. In fact I'm using this to give me extra strength and fire against Bolton. I desperately want to play well and help us make it to the Final."

Villa skipper Gareth Southgate, who has missed the last two games with an ankle injury, has been declared fit and will play. John Gregory has to decide whether to start with Dion Dublin - back in action three months after breaking a bone in his neck - or speedster Julian Joachin alongside Carbone. WHITES
