THE conversion of the former Bolton Art College into flats has been singled out for praise in the National Civic Trust awards.

The Hilden Street building, now known as St Peter's Court because it overlooks St Peter's Way, is owned by St Vincent's Housing Association. The architects were local firm Good and Tillotson and the contractors William Hargreaves Ltd of Bolton.

It is the third accolade for the building since the massive conversion scheme was completed.

Although the scheme has not won one of the major awards in the civic trust selection, it is praised for the "positive contribution" it has made towards the regeneration of inner Bolton.

Peter Hope, chairman of Bolton Civic Trust's Planning Sub-committee, said he was pleased that praise had been given to a regeneration project rather than a new-build scheme.

He said he hoped the success would encourage entries from other regeneration schemes in future.
