TWO care workers at a Bolton nursing home have taken the plunge and done a David Beckham!

They have had all their hair lopped off for charity.

But George Burrows, 45, one of two carers who have gone bald at Shannon Court Nursing Home on Radcliffe Road, insists they didn't do it to look like the Old Trafford star. He wanted to look like the late Yul Brynner.

Next week the nursing home is staging a "Songs from the Shows" night and George decided to take his role seriously.

He's performing songs from The King and I and decided he had to look like its original star -- the bald headed Mr Brynner.

He said: "When my wife found out I was playing the part of the King, she said why not get your head shaved so you can look like Yul Brynner. For some reason I agreed and it turned into a sponsored head shave."

George's colleague, Sheena Clayton, aged 18, also had her hair shaved off to raise some money for the show next Wednesday.

Karen McGinty, another member of staff at the nursing home for the elderly, said: "All the staff are a bit mad here and game for anything, but it is for a good cause and we hope to raise around £400 which we'll spend on treats for the residents."

The shaving was carried out by qualified hairdresser Zena Walker, whose mum Christine is head carer at the nursing home.

*The Songs from the Shows evening takes place at the home on Wednesday April 5.
