NOW that Bolton Council has brought some dog owners to court for dog fouling, how about declaring war on the litter spreaders?

The streets and open land in Farnworth are a absolute disgrace, there is just as much cause for concern about it as the dog fouling.

I went on Harper Green playing fields with my grandchildren to watch a football match on Saturday. On the field by the side of the school to the football pitch, I counted 15 large cans, a carton that had had 24 large cans in it, countless pop bottles and crisp and toffee paper littered everywhere. When you go into Farnworth shopping it is the same. Bushes outside Littlewoods and Asda have bottles, cans and food cartons deliberately pushed in them.

What is done to stop it? Nothing whatsoever. So come on Bolton Council get your act together and sort it out as you have done with the dog fouling.

I suggest the council could give employment to quite a number of people, issuing instant fines.

At £5 a time the council would soon have got back the wages and more besides.

This is what happens in Canada and other countries, let's follow their example.
