THE Mayor of Horwich, Counc. Des Smith, has complained to Bolton Council about the handling of last week;'s visit to the town's Leisure Centre by Princess Anne. His action is part of a storm of protests over alleged 'snubbing' of Horwich at the opening ceremony. Counc. Smith says that Horwich's major role in the building of the centre should have been recognised by allowing more local people to take part in the ceremony.

'I think that at least I should have been in the official party that went round the centre with Princess Anne, and also outside to greet her. The centre would not have been there without Horwich Council. It should have been Horwich's day'. The Mayor and Mayoress of Horwich were presented to the Princess, but it was the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton who took the major role.

THE Brothers Rizareli were on Saturday night patronised, at the opening of their circus, by an audience which tested the capabilities of the large building to the utmost extent, such being the rush of visitors that it proved more than Mr Channon, the manager, and his assistant, Mr H. Stirling, could do to find seats for the great numbers who paid for admissions. The building is calculated to accommodate about 2,500 persons, but there must have been many more present on Saturday night, whilst scores were unable to gain admittance, every inch of even standing room being occupied long before the time announced for the commencement of the proceedings. The handsome appearance and the excellent arrangements of the interior were greatly admired, the artistic decorations showing off to advantage in the gaslight. The performance itself, not withstanding the usual drawbacks which will present themselves on a first night, was an undoubted success, several of the artistes meeting with a reception of the most flattering kind.
