CLAUS Jensen counted his blessings and Sam Allardyce gave a ringing endorsement for car safety after the midfield ace steered Wanderers to victory 24 hours after surviving a car crash. The 22-year-old Dane suffered only minor whiplash injuries in the Friday lunchtime smash, as he drove his Mercedes away from Wanderers' training camp.

Jensen said the smash, which occured less than a mile from the Euxton headquarters, had not threatened his selection for Saturday's game against Port Vale, in which he laid on both goals in the 2-1 win.

But the manager described him as "a very lucky lad".

"I was glad he was in his new Mercedes," he said. "That type of car and its safety features helped an awful lot with the type of accident he was in.

"He only suffered a slight neck injury, thankfully just a bit of stiffness from the whiplash. But it could have been an awful lot more serious.

"We can thank God he wasn't hurt any more than he was."

Jensen joked: "The car has looked better."

But on a serious note he said: "When things like that happe you get a bit scared but, fortunately, nobody got hurt and that's the most important thing.

"I just got a bit of a shock and a little bit of a headache. It wasn't a bad accident."
