STEVE Waywell's intentions of strengthening Leigh RMI's squad continues with the signing of Mark Ward.

The former Manchester City, Everton and West Ham United midfield player figured for Altrincham last season and has just returned from a spell in Jersey.

Unfortunately, he will be side-lined for a couple of weeks while RMI take care of cup business - Crook Town in an FA Cup reply tonight and Boston in the Umbro Trophy on Saturday.

A late medical check today will force Waywell's hand in selecting a side for the long trip to the North East.

Definitely out is Simon Turpin, who has been transfer listed but will miss the game because of work commitments.

But there are doubts over Steve Jones, Stuart Locke, Tony Black and Brian Ross.

Dave German is available after missing Saturday's 1-1 draw and could fill Turpin's role in the middle of the back three, but Liam Carr will give Waywell another option.

Extra time and penalties, if necessary, will decide who travel to Doncaster in the next round.

RMI are the first recipients of a new monthly prize, awarded by the Unibond for the club with the best performance. With six wins in September, the Railwaymen will receive a portable TV.
