ONE of the projects from Bolton's national award-winning Roadside Care Scheme may have to end - because the company that operates it has moved to a neighbouring town.

Roadside Care is a popular scheme, where local groups "adopt" a roadside area or park, and agree to undertake litter picks at least three times per year.

The groups receive all necessary clean up and promotional materials from Bolton Council and a sign is erected with their name.

Moved

One of the groups, Greenfingers Landscaping Services, has now moved from Bolton to Darwen, so cannot continue its Roadside Care Project.

They have been in the scheme for three years, and carried out "excellent work" says the council in looking after their adopted area in Dunscar and Egerton.

Cllr Jack Foster, chairman of the planning and environment committee said: "The work undertaken by these Roadside Care groups is invaluable, as it not only improves local areas, but helps to educate and raise awareness about litter, among others.

We currently have 37 Roadside Care projects in the borough. It would be a real shame to lose one."

Greenfingers' adopted area ran alongside Blackburn Road, from Egerton to the War Memorial at Dunscar.

"If any groups are interested in taking over this scheme, new signs will be installed, bearing their name, and they will receive full support from the People and Places Programme (Bolton Council's environmental improvement campaign)," said a council spokesman.
