A HUGE new wave of traffic calming measures are set to be introduced in residential areas of Bolton and Farnworth.

If they are approved, the schemes look set to go head before the Spring and will be welcomed by thousands of parents who fear for their children's safety in estates and residential streets.

Four major schemes took up almost a full page when they were listed in last night's BEN.

Bolton Council plans to introduce humps in Quebec Street/Lanchester Drive, Deane; Piggott Street, Farnworth; Pikes Lane/Gibraltar Street, Deane; and Auburn Street/ Goldsmith Street, Daubhill.

The scheme on Pikes Lane, which will include traffic-calming humps, will be introduced as work gets under way on a new primary school and health centre - the flagship project of the 3Ds Partnership set up to regenerate the Deane, Derby and Daubhill areas of Bolton.

The plans for Farnworth involve the Piggott Street area where a network of narrow residential streets and roads are interspersed with businesses.

Rat runs

Local people have complained of speeding traffic using their streets as rat runs for many years.

Maps and plans showing the affected roads can be inspected by the public during normal office hours at the first floor reception, Bolton Town Hall before January 25.

Any representations must also be made by that date.
